North America’s only hotel made entirely of ice and snow kicked off its brisk 13th season entitled A Journey to the Centre of Winter on Saturday after hosting more than 92,000 guests in 2012.
The Hôtel de Glace, located about 10 minutes from Quebec City, has been entirely redesigned for the 2013 season which runs from January 5 to March 24.
“Nothing compares to this hotel experience. The Hotel de Glace was like no other,” wrote “Andrew W.” in a review on the Yelp website.
The hotel has been prominently featured on television including an advertisement for season three of History Television’s Ice Road Truckers series. The hotel also played host to an Anheuser-Busch Super Bowl ad and has been the scene of live news reports since its opening on January 1, 2001.
The Ice Hotel hosted its youngest guest, 6, in 2012 and features 44 theme rooms which can accommodate up to 88 people per night, the hotel said. It features 32,000 square feet of space, a Nordic area with hot tubs and saunas, and an ice bar capable of entertaining up to 400 people.
The ice café—which can be converted into a chapel for weddings—has a capacity of up to 150 people. The café/chapel hosted 28 weddings in 2012, the hotel said.
“Starting with its Grand Opening night, the Hôtel de Glace has lined up cool activities and exciting special events all season long. Normandin spring break, DJ dancing at the Ice Bar and an old-time sugar shack—everyone is invited to come make the most of winter at the Hôtel de Glace,” a news release said.
