QR Codes simplify Seoul bus system

“Today, more than 6,300 bus stops displaying 10,000 posters will be equipped with QR codes allowing passengers to search the streets of Seoul, track real-time bus arrival times and find downtown sightseeing information,” said a city official on Jan. 18.

With the new system, passengers can find bus information much faster than they previously could. Up until now, passengers could use smart phones like Apple, but the system became very complicated due to the need of additional applications to find corresponding bus information. “Stop QR Code” will also benefit foreign tourists because it doesn’t only come in the Korean language. It provides bus information in English, Japan and Chinese.

Kim Chang-kyun, Director of the Urban Transportation Division Traffic, explained, “The number of people taking advantage of bus arrival information via smart phones has grown exponentially which gave us the idea to provide the same service.”
