According to a Jan. 20 Daily Mail report, Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan, 32 wed Clay Pell, 31 on Jan. 19 in Rhode Island.
Pell, a JAG and Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard married in full uniform and Kwan, a senior advisor for public diplomacy and public affairs, opted for an ivory Vera Wang gown.
The couple, who wrote their own vows wed before 240 family and friends. According to PEOPLE, Kwan and Pell were so engrossed in the moment and each other that they spontaneously kissed before the minister pronounced them man and wife. A guest told the magazine that “a few minutes later, the minister said, ‘And for their second first kiss as Mr. and Mrs. Clay Pell,’ and everyone laughed.”
Following their engagement in September, Kwan told PEOPLE, “I never was one who believed in love at first sight, but I have to admit it happened for us. I felt there was a magnetic connection between us. I thought he was the one from the beginning.”
Forever, the nostalgic skating queen, Kwan incorporated the “Fields of Gold” song from her 2002 Salt Lake City Winter games routine into her wedding program.
Describing the couple as “truly a perfect match,” a wedding guest told PEOPLE, “You could feel the love Michelle and Clay have for each other.”
