Qdoba launches brown rice in Denver

Continuing its history of developing healthier menu items, Qdoba Mexican Grill, is proud to introduce brown rice at all participating Qdoba locations. Qdoba’s brown rice is prepared daily with a flavorful blend of roasted garlic, fire-roasted tomatoes, onion and a hint of red chiles that gives guests a new, delicious option to enjoy with their favorite entrée.

“Developing healthier menu options continues to be one of our top priorities. However, we refuse to sacrifice taste in our creations,” said Ted Stoner, Qdoba’s head chef and director of strategic product development. “Our new brown rice was inspired by popular flavors from Mexico like fire-roasted tomatoes and two types of red chiles, which complement our adobo marinated steak and chicken, our slow-simmered pork and many other menu items.”

According to a May 2011 Harris Interactive poll, three in four consumers surveyed say they would choose a lower-calorie item if taste and portion size were comparable. In addition, Qdoba’s own guest research shows that diners continually seek new flavors and enjoy a variety of choices that allow them to personalize and be involved in the creation of their meals.

Guest can choose to add Qdoba’s classic cilantro-lime rice or new, savory brown rice to a wide variety of entrees, including burritos, Naked Burritos and Mexican Gumbo. All of Qdoba’s meals are handmade in front of the guest and topped with personally selected fresh ingredients to fit his/her own nutritional needs and taste and dietary preferences.

Chef Stoner has put together a few of his favorite menu builds using brown rice:

NAKED QUESO BURRITO WITH BROWN RICE
• Brown Rice
• Black Beans
• Seasoned Ground Beef
• 3-Cheese Queso
• Salsa Roja
• Pico de Gallo
• Tortilla Strips

When paired together, the roasted garlic and chiles in our brown rice give 3-Cheese queso a little extra kick, which is great if you like spice.

MEXICAN GUMBO WITH BROWN RICE
• Brown Rice
• Black or Pinto Beans
• Grilled Chicken
• Tortilla Soup
• Cheese
• Sour Cream

If you thought Mexican Gumbo was good with Cilantro-lime rice, wait until you try it with the new brown rice. The flavor and texture make it even more irresistible.

GRILLED VEGGIE BURRITO WITH BROWN RICE
• Whole Wheat Tortilla
• Brown Rice
• Black Beans
• Grilled Veggies
• Ranchera Sauce
• Pico de Gallo

Swapping brown rice for Cilantro-lime rice adds flavor, protein and fiber, making this a great option for vegetarians or anyone looking to try something new.
