QCSL Playoffs

Wednesday March 31st, 2010 – The semi final matches of the QCSL World Cup have been set. Powerhouse Greece makes an early exit to Cinderella story Portugal which now makes Canada the overwhelming favorite heading into the semi finals.

Portugal 4 – Greece 2
Portugal 4 – Greece 3
Cinderella team Portugal has knocked off the season champions Greece by winning the final two games of the playoffs thanks to some great goaltending and defense. In game two Portugal needed some miraculous saves by Kosta Papapostolou to even the series up at one game a piece. The deciding match was played on Sunday and Portugal fought off Greece with another great defensive performance. Ilias Calaitzidis scored all three goals for Greece but it still was not enough to see the heavily favored Greeks clinch a spot in the semi finals.

Canada 8 – San Marino 2
San Marino proved to be no match for defending champions Canada in the second game of the quarterfinals. Canada easily defeated San Marino 8-2 thanks a hat trick from Sita-Taty Matondo and pair of goals from Cristian Nunez. Canada who is now the heavily favored team will face Portugal in game one of the best of three series this Saturday April 3rd.

Italy 2 – Sweden 1
Sweden 9 – Italy 2
After a very defensive game that saw Italy tie up the series at one game a piece, the deciding game was all but defensive. Sweden were able to put 9 goals passed the Italian goalkeeper and book their spot in the semi finals. Wandrille Lefebvre provided most of Sweden’s offence by recording four goals in this decisive match. Italy who had high expectations coming into this season crashed out earlier than they expected.

Chile 5 – France 3
Chile 3 – France 2
After losing the first game in the best of three series Chile were able to win the final two games to book themselves a date with Sweden in the semi finals. Chile’s Rachid Madkour scored two very important goals to help Chile even up the series in game two. In the deciding game Rachid Madkour proved again how dominant of a player he is by participating in all three Chilean goals. Finishing the game with one goal and two assists Rachid will look to keep his hot streak alive in game one of the semi finals to Sweden this Saturday night April 3rd.
