QCSL World Cup Playoffs Results

Tuesday March 23rd, 2010 – Greece and Canada who are considered the favorites heading into the QCSL playoffs are off to a great start after the first game of the quarter finals.

Greece 4 – Portugal 3
Greece edged Portugal by one goal in the first game of their best of three series. Greece was able to put four passed the very tough to beat Portuguese keeper Luigi Barbieri. Greece needed goals from Chris Stathopoulos, Bruno Munguia, Ilias Calaitzidis and Franco Perrotta to secure a very important win. Portugal will try to even up the series in game two this Saturday March 27th at 7:00pm.

Canada 5 – San Marino 3
Canada needed some great goaltending and five different goal scorers to dispose of San Marino in game one by a score line of 5 to 3. Gabard Fenelon made 14 saves and only allowed three shots to get passed him in a game that saw each team receive a red card. Wyn Belotte an offensive powerhouse for Canada and Nicolas Bertrand of San Marino both received their walking papers from the referee. San Marino will look to force a third game in this series this Saturday March 27th at 6:00pm.

Sweden 5 – Italy 2
Ammar Badawieh and Gerry Argento proved to be too dominant for Italy as Sweden won game one 5 to 2. Ammar recorded a hat trick and Gerry Argento made 20 saves for Sweden who will look to end the series and move on to the semi finals this Saturday March 27th at 8:00pm. Italy will need help from their top three offensive players Mike Sevo, Gabriel Stante and Massimo Di Ioia if they want any chance of winning the next two games versus a tough Swedish team.

France 5 – Chile 4 (OT)
Seventh seeded France needed overtime and a great performance by Goalkeeper Jean Pierre Gignac to take game one versus third seeded Chile. Chile who came into this best of three as the favorite needs to win their next two games if they want their season to continue. Chile will look to figure out French keeper Gignac who made 24 saves in a 5 to 4 overtime win. Game 2 is scheduled this weekend on Saturday March 27th at 9:00pm.
