Danielle Mackey, known to gamers online by her nickname "Panser," is a professional YouTuber that makes videos about video games. Her passion for gaming coupled with her bubbly, energetic personality have made her videos very popular. It probably doesn't hurt that she is very knowledgable and also quite pretty! At the time of this writing, Panser's TradeChat channel has over 167,000 subscribers and nearly 23 million views.
Panser was on Season 2 of Sony's reality show The Tester and is also currently a contestant on TBS's King of the Nerds so it is fair to say she knows her stuff. I sat down with her to talk some League of Legends and what she thinks of the game's Tribunal system.
Tell me about the origin of your nickname, "Panser."
My first World of Warcraft character was a feral tauren druid named Panserbjørne, after the armored bears from the Golden Compass books. "Panser" was what people in vent would call me when raiding. I guess it stuck!
Has your life changed much since being on King of the Nerds?
I was "internet famous" before I went on King of the Nerds, and I don't leave my house often, so on a day-to-day basis I don't notice too much of a difference. It is crazy seeing myself on TV, though!
Did you know that you currently have your own Wikipedia page?
I do, but it was being considered for deletion, lol! I think it's due to the fact that for most of my internet life I've tried to hide my real name, so it's hard to find sources that mention me as "Danielle Mackey" rather than "TradeChat" or "Panser." Oh the joys of having a secret identity, haha!
So you talk a lot about World of Warcraft and League of Legends on your channel, but what are some other video games that you like to play?
I play a lot of games! Some of my favorites (other than WoW and LoL) are: Minecraft, Portal 1 and 2, Tera, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Eternal Sonata, Lego Lord of the Rings, Super Meat Boy, Geometry Wars, and StarCraft II (I am in the beta for HotS as well, it's awesome)! I am currently trying to 100% Skylanders Giants and I also shamefully admit to being an avid Farmville player since it's release in 2009, lol!
If you could only pick one, who would you say is your favorite LoL champion?
That's tough. The champion I play best is probably Soraka, but my favorite champion to play is probably Vi. PUNCH FIRST, ASK QUESTIONS WHILE PUNCHING! >:D
Okay okay. Who's your second favorite?
My second favorite champion is Sivir, but only if I have a Soraka support to feed me mana for unlimited Q-ing!
What about least favorite?
Katarina or Darius. No one should get pentas that easily! D:<
Which champ do you think is the most OP and how would you suggest balancing them?
Darius!!!!! He is broken OP. His ult shouldn't scale and/or reset. One or the other...ONE OR THE OTHER!!!
If you could possess an ability from LoL in real life, what would it be?
Teemo's W, but only with the Super Teemo skin!
What are your thoughts about the Tribunal system?
I like the Tribunal system, I think it's good that players have input on that aspect of the community. There are a few things I would change: First, a counter-punish feature for troll-reporters. Second, along with "Pardon" and "Punish" I'd love to see a "Send Warning" option. And third, the addition of pre-game and post-game chat logs. That's where stuff usually gets REALLY out of hand!
Another sort of Tribunal related idea I have is that rather than reporting someone afk at the end of a game, if someone is afk for more than five levels, the disadvantaged team should be given the option to forfeit at no penalty. It really, really sucks loading into a game (AND IT IS ALWAYS RANKED D:<) when it is 4v5 from the very beginning!
Do you have any advice for people looking to start up their own YouTube channel?
If you are looking to start a YouTube channel, make videos that you would want to watch! Be consistent in both your content and your upload frequency. Also, grow some thick skin because you will need it!
