Pyxis of Pandemonium is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 3, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an article on DailyMTG.com. Pyxis of Pandemonium is a quirky rare artifact that has an interesting effect.
Pyxis of Pandemonium - 1
Tap: Each player exiles the top card of his or her library face down.
7, Tap, Sacrifice Pyxis of Pandemonium: Each player turns face up all the cards he or she owns exiled with Pyxis of Pandemonium, then puts all permanent cards among them onto the battlefield.
Pyxis of Pandemonium is a tricky card to build a deck around, and there's a few different angles you can look at it. In a vaccum with no other cards to interact with it, you'll gain the most advantage if you're the player with more permanents put onto the battlefield than your opponent. That means abusing Pyxis of Pandemonium can be as simple as adding it to a deck that doesn't contain any non-permanent spells. Domri Rade decks make the perfect place to add a Pyxis of Pandemonium or two. Every instant and sorcery of your opponent's that Pyxis of Pandemonium exiles is another card you'll be up.
Pyxis of Pandemonium is quite effective against control players, who can scry all they want. Will they try to play a mind game with you over if they really want to exile the top card of their library or not?
Pyxis of Pandemonium doesn't cost anything to activate it's first ability. Alongside abilities that allow you to see the top of your library or manipulate it like Sylvan Library or Sensei's Divining Top, Pyxis of Pandemonium can help you rapidly dig for a key answer or threat. Pyxis of Pandemonium can also be used to help mill yourself, bringing you one step closer each turn to winning with Laboratory Maniac.
How will you use Pyxis of Pandemonium?
