If you have $25 and a way to get to the Everglades you can be part of the Everglades “snake wrestling” event beginning January 12, 2013. In an effort to reduce the population of Burmese Pythons in the Everglades, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and its partners are reaching out to the public for help and making quite a sport of it. This month long sporting contest includes descent cash prizes of up to $1,500.
You don't have to be a professional wrangler in order to participate, but it wouldn't hurt. This “Python Challenge” as it was named will prove to be an exciting event. If you hate snakes, python wrestling is probably not for you, and today's announcement may have you cringing. However, you will be sleeping better at night knowing there are fewer of these monster snakes in the Everglades.
The “2013 Python Challenge™” will begin at the University of Ft. Lauderdale research and education center in Davie. There will be an awareness and awards ceremony on February 16, 2013 at Zoo Miami.
So get out those waders and slap on the bug repellent, it's going to be an amazing month-long event.
