At the heart of the government shutdown is the statement between the GOP-led House and the Senate over Obamacare. Republicans have dug their heels in and have conditioned any continued funding of the government with the elimination – or at least the delay – of Obamacare.
Nevertheless, as the government shut itself down, Obamacare moved forward.
“The Affordable Care Act is moving forward. That funding is already in place. You can’t shut it down,” Obama said in an eleventh-hour warning to the Republicans late Monday night.
Tuesday was the day when uninsured Americans had their first chance to sign up for health coverage, prompting the government’s website, www.healthcare.gov, to briefly crash and be plagued with glitches, much like the state of affairs of the government these days.
As you may (or may not) know, Obamacare is simply a nickname for the Affordable Care Act. Turns out many actually didn’t know, and were more than happy to try to pull reasons out of their (you know where) as to why they favored one plan over the other.
“Lucky for them, Jimmy Kimmel is out there with a video camera offering the chance to vent and express their views. And lucky for us, there's nothing more American than expressing your views without bothering to look things up first,” says MSN Now on Oct. 2.
