Children's record label Putumayo Kids, which last year brought an expanded product line of globally-themed product offerings to Toy Fair, went a step further this year.
The New York-based company, which is the kids music division of Putumayo World Music, showed samples of an upcoming global musical instrument line with colorful sets of maracas and castanets designed for children.
"We're experimenting with the product," says Putumayo founder/CEO Dan Storper, who looks to have it available in stores by the end of August. He notes that the artwork on the instruments maintains continuity with the colorful covers of Putumayo and Putumayo Kids CD releases.
Putumayo CD artwork was likewise brought over to the coloring books and sticker collections, focusing on Africa, Latin America and Europe, which Putumayo Kids introduced at last year's Toy Fair.
As for traditional Putumayo Kids music product, Storper says that Kids Cowboy Playground, featuring "classic country songs that we all remember" and with notes by music historian Holly George Warren, will be released in May.
