One might be hard pressed to find a reputable seafood restaurant in the Metro area, that is until Molly Cool's Seafood Tavern opened. The casual restaurant, in the old Copper Bleu, has a big, open dining room and a menu that's even bigger.
A large tank, crammed filled with lobster greets you as you enter the small, stuffy lobby, creating a bit of a traffic jam on busy nights. But the bar is huge and offers several big screen TVs for the sports fans.
The restaurant has specials a few nights a week that are sure to draw people in. Thursday night is for crab lovers, Friday has a fish fry and Sunday features one and a quarter pound lobster for twenty dollars from 4 p.m. until the tank is dry--literally.
Molly Cool's has a early and late happy hour featuring two-for-one rail drinks, wine and tap beer Monday through Friday. Friday features an "oyster orgy" happy hour with free oysters until they are gone.
Not your typical seafood menu as it has a bit of a southern or creole feel to it with a jalapeño cornbread and cajun beef bites. One thing the restaurant has plenty of is oysters and a variety of them. For the oyster expert, there is a quiz on the placemat to test your oyster knowledge.
The fish ranges from mahi mahi to swordfish and everything on the menu seems to be resonably priced. The menu caters to the non-seafood lovers with a nice steak selection, soups and salads and a variety of sandwiches.
Overall the restaurant is pretty hip that appeals very much to the suburbian 25-45 crowd. The service was outstanding, easily commanding a 20 percent tip. The food was above average that was priced just right.
