Herb Alpert releases single and video to ‘Putting on the Ritz’ from his ‘Steppin’ Out’ collection. ‘Putting on the Ritz’ is an Irving Berlin masterpiece re-done to an upbeat "jazzy" charm that only another equally legendary artist such as Herb Alpert can accomplish competently. Herb Alpert comments, "From out of the blue, I found myself humming this great standard song, 'Puttin' On The Ritz' by Irving Berlin, and I wanted to find a new way to record it like it hadn't been heard before. Working with my nephew Randy 'Badazz' Alpert, we put it in an unusual dance-type setting that I feel gives it an international appeal. The track is fun, upbeat and unique. I've always felt that if a song is fun to play, it will be fun to listen to...and it was fun to play." Herb Alpert’s version to ‘Putting on the Ritz’ is successful in delivering a fun energetic song, pleasing to the ears, refreshing to the mind and comforting to the soul.
The video is equally successful in delivering a fun energetic experience. Herb Alpert makes several appearances in the video as a bus driver, a barber and bar tender. His equally legendary wife from her Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66 and James Bond fame, Lani Hall, is seen throughout video as a band leader and bar patron.
Dance sequences in video are modern, sophisticated, and complimentary to Herb Alpert’s version and interpretation of the song. Dance moves are infectiously addictive along with the beat of the song. Dance sequences are reminiscent to Fred Astaire’s innovative dance moves to Irving Berlin’s original version.
Watch the video ‘Putting on the Ritz.’ Enjoy the song on many great jazz stations, such as NewporterJazz. Much like his music over the decades, Herb Alpert’s newest song will stand the test of time and eventually achieve the status of a classic great song.
