Putin stated during a television appearance last year that the couple’s decision to divorce was a joint decision. He said that they hardly see each other as each of them has their own life.

It is well known that the former wife does not like publicity. She said that the travel – specifically flying – was difficult for her. She also said that Vladimir Putin was completely drowned in his work.

Lyudmila’s name has been removed from his official biography on the Kremlin website while now only mentioning the Putins’ two daughters: Maria, 28, and Yekaterina, 27. However, her name still remains on another page of the Kremlin website without mention of the divorce.

According to the report, the divorce was civilized and the two would always remain close.

Six years ago, Putin denied rumors about him having secretly divorced and was planning to marry Alina Kabayeva, a former Olympic gymnast. Alina Kabayeva was one of the final six torchbearers at the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympics in February which stirred rumors regarding their possible relationship again.
