Put On the Armor of God

(Psalms 144:1-2) Of David. Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.

(Ephesians 6:10-13) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

When David went out to fight Goliath, he was a mere boy. Saul offered him his armor but it did not fit David and he chose to go out against Goliath with no armor and no weapon. David went out and defeated Goliath not because of his superior strength, armor, or weaponry, but through the power of the Holy Spirit. David went out against Goliath clad in the whole armor of God—and that is the one and only means by which he defeated Goliath.

The enemy you fight every day is far mightier than Goliath; his tactics are far superior. He is clever, quiet, and sneaky. He attacks you in subtle ways when you least expect it and many times don't even realize it. He attacks in ways and through people that you would never suspect. His goal, however, is the same as Goliath's; to utterly destroy you!

God has provided for you armor and weaponry to protect you in your constant and ongoing battle against the enemy. The armor God provides is unlike Saul's armor was for David. Saul's armor was too big, heavy, and bulky for David. It would not have protected David but would have been a hindrance and ultimately would have caused his fall. The Lord's armor is custom fit and custom designed specifically for you. It fits like a glove and is the very opposite of burdensome. It is your only means of defeating the enemy on a daily basis.

Do today and everyday what Paul instructs. Put on the whole armor of God and stand against the schemes, all the schemes, of the enemy!
