Purple: Continuing to Dominate

Purple became redistributed in 2009 as a top-rated color to have in any wardrobe.  That's right!  Anywhere from eyeshadow to undergarments and main outfit pieces to shoes it was seen.  Its impossibility to overlook made it that more noticeable and trendy.

As a color seen in numerous facets, purple will not disintegrate.  Why?  Mainly because purple can pop when it's bright but hide when it's dark (think wrap dresses hiding the waistline).  Plus, in terms of giving off two different vibes, the deeper the pigment, the more intense the feeling and the impact on others.  To be captivating try deep purple.  To be romantic try light purple.  Therefore, it seems that purple is acting like black and red, black in terms of camouflaging imperfections and red in terms of impact and feeling.  It is next to impossible to wear red and not get an automatic sense of confidence.  Purple does the same thing!

Zoe Saldana was spotted in purple at the 2010 Oscars.  A strapless bodice decked-out in sparkles and glamor fanned out into a bottom ascending in shades of purple ruffles from muted lavender to popping plum and ending in deep violet.  The designer?  A Givenchy couture piece by Riccardo Tisci.  Due to the extensive slit in the front middle of the dress, it deemed to be extra important to showcase a matching shoe.  In this case, a purple blended combination of shades from the dress itself.

Another reason purple seems to have risen on everyone's radar?  The outbreak of vampire hysteria.  How else would it be possible to look like the Cullen's and Salvatore's as well as other vampires decades older than ourselves?  The make-up artists on these sets are incorporating deep violets and blackberry on lips to make a dramatic effect.

Pick your poison carefully this spring.  Utilize neon purples on tootsies and fingertips from Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer (Ruby) and other bright selections from O.P.I or your nearest Sephora (try The Somerset Collection and Twelve Oaks Mall).  On eyes brave Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow (Night Butterfly) or  accentuate brown eyes in Maybelline New ExpertWear Stylish Smokes (Amethyst Smokes).  Have a little vampire in you wanting to show itself?  Experiment with shades of purple on lips from CoverGirl Vibrant Hue Lipstick (Black Currant) and Chanel Rouge Allure (Maniac).  Otherwise, make a statement with accessories and individual pieces from Issac Mizrahi, Bottega Veneta, and Jason Wu.  Great cheaper locations to investigate:  The Limited, JCPenney, Target, and H&M.

Be courageous this season.  Look to numerous locations for inspiration (you'll be surprised how many you find utilizing purple).  Show off.  Represent.  Be an individual.  Be you.
