Purphoros, God of the Forge is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 2, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an article on Metagame.it. Purphoros, God of the Forge joins Nylea and Heliod as one of the five main gods of "Theros" and can be a powerful red mythic rare in the right deck.
Purphoros, God of the Forge - 3R
Legendary Enchantment Creature - God (Mythic Rare)
As long as your devotion to red is less than five, Purphoros isn't a creature (Each R in the mana costs of permanents you control counts toward your devotion to red.)
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, Purphoros deals 2 damage to each opponent.
2R: Each creature you control gains +1/+0 until end of turn.
Really taking advantage of Purphoros, God of the Forge relies upon being able to get multiple creatures onto the battlefield. Every creature, no matter how big, will have Purphoros, God of the Forge deal two damage to each opponent. In Standard Purphoros, God of the Forge makes an excellent addition to any deck seeking to abuse Akroan Crusader and Young Pyromancer. One card in particular though that really shines with Purphoros, God of the Forge is Assemble the Legion. After a couple of turns if the triggered ability doesn't kill your opponent you'll be able to use Purphoros, God of the Forge's activated ability to pump all of your creatures at once and attack for the win.
It's important to now that Purphors, God of the Forge says each opponent. That makes Purphors, God of the Forge particularly nasty in Commander where it'll hit multiple players. One idea is to create infinite creatures with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker or another way and kill all of your rivals at once.
How will you use Purphoros, God of the Forge?
