On November 19 a conference center in New York City, Purina rocked the "Better With Pets" theme to an invitation only crowd of pet writing media and Purina personnel. The all day conference featured 16 top speakers from well known veterinarians Robin Downing and Marty Becker to the beloved "Simon the Cat" cartoonist, Simon Tofield.
The purpose of the conference was to inspire people and encourage them to break own barriers that exist for pets allowing people and their pets to explore the world together. Think of it as a pep rally for pet ownership!
Each speaker brought personal tales of the human animal bond to life with real life stories of animals and their humans. Watching Simon Tofield draw his four personal cats as he told how the cats came into his life was impressive artwork. The personalities of the individual cats were easily displayed with a simple swipe of the marker. Add to that Simon’s unstinting plugs for adopting black cats – yes, the model for Simon is actually a black cat – and you have a total winner.
Arleigh Reynolds is a Cornell trained DVM and PhD in nutrition. He true calling in life has been to work with some of the “extreme athletes” of the canine world – the sprint class sled dogs. His passion led him to move to Alaska and start training and running his own team. His emotional account of winning the world championship was moving for everyone in his audience.
A small preview of the conference can be seen here. Eventually the presentations will be available at the link listed above for Better With Pets.
