LOS ANGELES, CA – Every 98 minutes, a dog is shot by law enforcement in this country. Michael Ozias, editor of the famous series, Kitchen Nightmares, and Patrick Reasonover, producer at Ozymandias Media, are currently working on a feature length documentary that will take the viewer inside the lives of the victims of these shootings, and show us their excruciating trauma of loss, and their battle for justice with police and the legal system.
Puppycide (the killing of a dog) is acceptable collateral damage in the eyes of the police culture and the legal system. Ozias and Reasonover discovered while researching the documentary, that only a few of the police shooting incidents involve callous officers. They found the majority of these shootings occur because the police officers are not currently offered the simple training, tools, or the support they need to change.
The film will examine why puppycides are increasing, why they are so devastating, and the tools available to prevent them.
Ozias and Reasonover have started a public donation page on Kickstarter, which will allow people to help support the documentary through donations. Ozias and Reasonover stated on their donation page, “We need funding to allow us to travel to incidents as they occur; step-up our inquiries through Freedom of Information requests of police records; shoot more interviews with owners, advocates, public figures and police; research and acquire footage of puppycides caught on tape; interview experts on dog behavior; participate in police ride-a-longs and trainings; and find a home for the finished film.”
