Today, Hammer is a happy puppy who is healing from devastating breaks in his two front legs.
The handsome brindle mix nearly lost his life over the broken legs...
Two months ago, Hammer arrived to the Humane Society of Escambia County in Flomaton, Ala., in horrible pain, and obviously suffering. The small, rural shelter did not have the necessary funds to get the injured dog the specialized veterinary care which he needed.
The rescue agency, H.E.A.L.S., learned about Hammer's situation and offered to set up a fundraiser to help raise money for his care. The fundraiser was successful, and over $2000 was raised on Hammer's behalf (click here to view original fundraiser).
Unfortunately, the Humane Society, and Hammer, did not receive all of the funds that were promised.
Citing financial problems, the rescue agency which held the fundraiser only turned over a portion of the promised funds to Hammer, leaving the rural humane society struggling to pay for Hammer's surgeries and care, which totaled over $2000.
Thanks to a new fundraiser for Hammer, most of the funds have been raised, again, but not everything.
Though the individuals who have been working on Hammer's case are happy that some funds were raised to help him, they are also concerned that another rescue agency utilized his sad story to raise money, in his name, and they did not follow through on what they promised to do.
Sadly, the lack of follow-through has left those involved feeling betrayed, and it has created a loss of trust.
