Puppy survives mutilation

Tehachapi, CA - Sonar is an adorable 8 week-old Shepherd/Rottweiler puppy. But something is missing from this beautiful pup - his ears.

Right now, Sonar is recovering with the help of friends at Marley's Mutts Rescue and the vet staff at the Tehachapi Veterinary Hospital.

Had he not been found, he likely would have died. As it was, he was in shock by the time that animal control officers discovered his small, injured body.

Tragically, Kern County animal control officers report that they see injuries of this sort frequently. For some reason, people believe that it makes a dog look "tough".

Rational individuals know the truth - it does not make them look tough. It makes them look like a victim of abuse.

Abuse it is - those who have seen and treated this pup believe that his ears were removed with a knife or a razor.

It is highly unlikely that there was any type of pain relief offered to this young pup - only suffering and unimaginable pain.

According to KGET news, Sonar is still uncertain and lacks trust, but he is learning to overcome his haunted past with the help of a new friend at the rescue - a 130 lb St. Bernard.

Many thanks to Marley's Mutts for wrapping this baby up in love. Please stop by their Facebook page to tell them hello and to offer a word of thanks for taking Sonar in.
