Dixon, KY: A family is mourning the loss of an innocent puppy who was stabbed with a pitchfork and then thrown into a wood-burning stove by their neighbor, 44-year-old Andrea Searcy.
The Austin family started out with a litter of 10 puppies, but they began to vanish one at a time. Police received an ominous phone call from someone stating they had watched as a woman had repeatedly stabbed a puppy with a pitchfork and then had thrown the puppy into the stove. The caller stated they could hear the puppy shrieking in pain, but the Searcy relentlessly kept on with her attack on the helpless puppy.
On January 9th when police came out and confronted Searcy, she freely admitted committing the horrible crime. Searcy stated the puppy was on her property and she thought it was legal to kill him/her. She was arrested and remains behind bars at the Webster County Jail awaiting trial. The Austin family believes the other 3 puppies who vanished have been similarly killed.
Mr. Austin had stated that he told his wife he didn't know what Searcy was burning in her outside wood-burner, but it "didn't smell right". (Source.)

This is a prime example of why people should keep their animals in a protected enclosure. All too often we hear about animals wandering outside of their yards, only to be killed in horrific ways by heartless people.
This puppy and possibly his/her brothers and sisters didn't deserve to die in this brutal way, regardless of why they were in someone else's yard. But it certainly is a lesson that everyone can take away; making certain that your beloved animal companions are protected in every way possible.
For the Austins, all that remains of their beloved puppy is a bloodstain and their memories.
