While many think Super Bowl Sunday should be a Federal Holiday, there are others who would rather have a root canal than watch the game!
For all those non-football fans and/or animal fans, there is another option: the Puppy Bowl. This annual two hour ‘football game’ featuring adorable rescue puppies as the players is repeated over and over today on the Animal Planet.
The kid-friendly show is beyond cute and a perfect option to have on a second TV for all the non-football loving guest at a Super Bowl parties.
The canine starting line are each announced with stats and a ‘personal’ statement under their name ~ such as taped all the My Cat From Hell episodes or has a picture of Lassie on his wall. The dogs score touchdowns on a gridiron carpet by crossing the goal line with any of the toys.
There is a running play by play commentary and a referee who makes calls from illegal tackling to unnecessary cuteness. And the bowl is not only about dogs - there is a bird that tweets the game and hamster announcers.

And just like in the super bowl, there are cheerleaders: only these ones are hedgehogs! And for those who are cat people: don’t miss the halftime show featuring a dozens of adorable felines. Awwwww
This years Puppy Bowl has a few added cameras and props. There are toys that have cams in them, a cool-down hot tub for the players, a water bowl with a camera on the bottom and dramatic slow- mo replays. At the end of the game, there will be a MVP ~ Most Valuable Pup ~ award handed out.
By using all shelter dog and cats, hopefully viewers will consider adopting a new pet themselves.
