Animal Planet/Puppy Bowl IX

Unless you live in Baltimore or San Francisco, who really cares about the Super Bowl?
Most Americans will use Super Bowl Sunday for a day of foul weather food indulgence and exposure to new car commercials, but how interested are you actually going to be in a game between two teams you couldn’t really care less about?
Instead, tune in to a game filled charm and entertainment that will warm the heart strings. (No, I am not referring to the Lingerie Bowl.)
The Animal Planet cable network is airing Puppy Bowl IX as an alternative to this year’s grand commercial mess.
The Puppy Bowl pits teams of adorable pound puppies in a mock of football to raise awareness for homeless animals.
The puppies attempt to score touchdowns by dragging a chew toy over the goal line. At the end of the game, much like your workplace, the “Most Valuable Puppy” is selected based on performance and minimal napping.
More than 250 pets have been adopted through Puppy Bowl since 2004.
This year’s program offers a little something for everyone. Besides the puppies, there will be hedgehog cheerleaders, a kitten halftime show, and new “in your face” puppy-cam technology.
Locally, Puppy Bowl IX airs on Sunday, February 3, from 1-3 p.m., on Animal Planet, channel 30 on Comcast cable in Denver. You can also stream it live here.
