ABOUT PUP SQUAD
Pup Squad is a rescue group comprised of former volunteers from the Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care (BARC). They found that one of the most distressing things about volunteering at BARC was the plight of the puppies and their mothers – as puppies would often get sick and die.
With deadly airborne diseases floating around the shelter, the puppies simply could not survive with their weak immune systems. Even if the puppies were old enough for one vaccination, it was not enough to protect them. And for the lucky pups who were adopted, they were often returned because of their illnesses.
According to Pup Squad, the dogs who were pregnant or recently became mothers were usually euthanized. So upon seeing this heartbreaking situation over and over, the founders of Pup Squad turned to each other and said, "There's got to be a better way!" And so, Pup Squad Animal Rescue was formed.
The goal of the rescue group is to save as many puppies and nursing litters as they can from life on the streets before they even enter the shelters. They also want to work with BARC and other area shelters to rescue litters from the shelters as quickly as possible -- before they are exposed to the diseases of shelter life.
