On a cloudy, cold day in Punxsutawney, thousands of Phil's followers made their way up to Gobbles Know. With temperatures in the single digits and wind chills below zero, they patiently await Punxsutawney Phil's prediction for the rest of the winter; will there be six more weeks, or is an early spring expected.
The tradition of Groundhog's day has been going since 1887 and every year Phil's prediction is made that morning when his handlers awake him from his tree stump burrow. He is then shown to his followers before he makes the most important look for his shadow. He then talks to the president and main handler of the Inner Circle so that he can translate his prediction. Here is the prediction made by Phil, proclaimed by President Deeley of the Inner Circle:
And so ye faithful,
there is no shadow to see
An early Spring for you and me.
An early spring predicted by Phil as he did not see his shadow this morning. For the latest on the weather in Clarksville, check out the link below for today's forecast.
