What would fall be like without…you guessed it, pumpkins! Pumpkin pie, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin cake, pumpkin bread, pumpkin bagels, pumpkin beer, to list only a few.
Let’s take advantage of pumpkin season and reap their benefits: Pumpkin contains vitamin A, C, and over 100 grams more potassium than a banana. They are also an excellent source of amino acids and fiber, keeping you full longer.
Since eliminating coffee from my diet, there is one pumpkin goodie in particular that has left a void in my heart. The pumpkin spice latte. To prove its popularity ‘pumpkin spice’ gained 30,000 hash tags on twitter since 2012. If you’re unfamiliar with the term hash tag, it’s simply a method of tagging or labeling your ‘tweet,’ quotes, or photograph into categories. For instance if I posted a picture of a pumpkin spice latte I could type next to it: #pumpkinspice #starbucks #omgpumpkinslol. Maybe not the last one but you get the idea. The point is it’s very popular. However, this latte and other pumpkin imposter goodies will sabotage your diet and wellness routine.

I almost fell out of my chair when I read this. I’m uncertain if whipped cream is included in this but regardless, it’s far too troublesome for your diet.
To alleviate the desire for a latte I came up with my own alternative for a warm cup of pumpkiny goodness.
It’s incredibly simple too.
Chai Pumpkin Spice Tea Recipe
Steep a chai tea bag in a mug of two parts almond milk and one part hot water
Add two teaspoons of sweetener such as stevia
Add pumpkin pie spice and mix well
Pumpkin pie spice: ground cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Pour your pumpkin pie spice and stevia into a recycled spice container and take it along with you to the coffee shop. Have the barista prepare your coffee black or with the milk of your choice. Mix in your spice and enjoy!
