What: The Newseum invites you to attend Inside Media program whereas, Associated Press senior staff photographer Rodrigo Abd and freelance photographer Javier Manzano will discuss their award-winning photos and share the stories behind the images. Did you know? The mission of the Newseum is to champion the five freedoms of the First Amendment through education, information and entertainment. Check out brief bios for two of the winners of the 2013 Pulitzer Prizes for photography below:
- Abd, currently based in Lima, Peru, was one of five Associated Press photographers who shared the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography for their coverage of the civil war in Syria. Abd has received many honors for his work, including awards from World Press Photo and Pictures of the Year International.
- Manzano won the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography for his picture of two Syrian rebel soldiers tensely guarding their position as beams of light stream through bullet holes in a nearby metal wall. He specializes in video production and documentary photography, and his work has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time magazine and The Guardian
Who: You should know, Inside Media programs are recorded in front of a studio audience, are open to the public and are free with paid museum admission. Seating in the Knight TV Studio is available on a first come, first served basis.
