Pujols gets larger-than-life statue

He may not be a machine, but Albert Pujols is now a statue in St. Louis.

In front of a large crowd outside his restaurant, Pujols 5, at Westport Plaza, a bronze replica of the Cardinals’ slugger was unveiled.

The statue was commissioned two years ago by an anonymous donor and made by Harry Weber, the same man who created 10 of the statues that stand outside Busch Stadium. The likeness features a 10-foot-tall Pujols in his signature pose, pointing to the sky after hitting a home run.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Pujols told those gathered that he points heavenward "to remind me it's not about me. It's about Jesus Christ."

Pujols also joked to the media that this has been the best week of his life. Last Friday, the first baseman won his second World Series ring with the Cardinals.

Copies of the statue and sketches of it signed by Pujols are being sold to benefit the Pujols Family Foundation, also headquartered at Westport Plaza.

Pujols will next be headed to do work with the foundation in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
