The 38th Annual Pufferbilly Days celebration in Boone will kick off tomorrow at 5 p.m. The four-day event celebrating Boone's history as a railroad town (the term "Pufferbilly" actually has Australian roots, as it was the nickname of the small steam trains used in Australian coal mines) will offer live music, food, vendors, kid's activities, 5k and 10k runs, several athletic tournaments, a barbecue contest, bingo, a craft fair, an antique car show, a parade, a beer tent, a pet show, a photo contest, a carnival, a spelling bee, a quilt show, a Lil Miss and Mister Pufferbilly crowning, and more. Admission to the entertainment is free on Thursday and Sunday, and it is only $2 on Friday and Saturday. The celebration is centered in Downtown Boone at Ninth Street and Story Street, and it is open to all ages. Pufferbilly Days averages over 30,000 visitors each year.
This year's Pufferbilly Days celebration will feature live music from Hawk McIntyre, the Vinyl Vagabonds, the Burnin' Sensations, and Toaster. Hawk McIntyre is 14-year-old Boone guitarist and vocalist who has performed all over the state. The Vinyl Vagabonds are a rockabilly, folk, rock, and blues band from Ames.
