The city of Mobile and the fire department is always doing something that involves the community and public relations. Part of public relations involves things like station tours, business inspections, school inspections, and public outings.
On February 20th 2010 engine 18 and its crew was glad to participate in a public relations event at the Park Forest Plaza located at 4725 Moffat Road. This event was put on by Southern Fitness to promote their business and attract new members to sign up for a membership.
Engine 18s crew and truck was parked just on the outer boundary of where the event was taking place but yet close enough for show and tell for parents and their children to explore the inside and outside of the fire truck. Engine 18 and its crew had to park the truck outside the boundary because the crew had to stay on duty just in case a fire or medical call came in close by.
Engine 18 and its crew stayed on duty the entire three hours at this public gathering to show off the fire truck to the little boys, little girls and parents that may want to become a firefighter one day. This is what is called public relations.
Engine 18 and its crew would like to thank: The Shed BBQ and Blues Joint located at 5753 Oldshell Road for the free BBQ sandwiches they provided for lunch. Engine 18's crew would also like to thank Southern Fitness and all the people who gave nice complements to the crew for the services that the Mobile Fire Department provides.
Less than 5 minutes after the public relations event engine 18 was dispatched for a house fire at 3700 Schillinger Road North.
