Public input hearings in Annapolis on Common Core and education reform

See also

Bills related to Common Core and the barrage of other education reforms assaulting our school systems in Maryland are posting daily on the Maryland General Assembly website. There are three important dates for public input hearings at this point. I will be watching for more bills as they post and will update this list weekly on the website for The Baltimore County Coalition For Education Oversight.

I have listed the bills by hearing date and whether they are bills concerned citizens would want to support or are bills that further the agenda of federally-driven education reform. Bill numbers that start with HB are house bills, and bill numbers starting with SB are senate bills. Both are listed if the bill is crossfiled in both chambers.

Here is what citizens can do:

  • Please attend the hearings and plan to testify. Typical testimony is two or three minutes long. Write it out and time yourself. Contact the bill sponsor to find out what the deadline is for signing up to testify, where to go, how many copies to make of your testimony, and how long each person will have to testify.
  • If you can’t attend the hearings, submit written testimony by email to each of the members of the committee hearing the public comment. Be sure to contact both the house of delegates and senate committees if the bill was crossfiled. The senate committee will be different than the house committee. Put the bill number at the top of the page and include your name and address.
  • Also submit your written testimony to the committee itself, otherwise your testimony will not go into the record. Contact the committee through the links below and ask about how to submit your testimony into the record.
