Despite hard work by many dedicated members of our community, Nacogdoches County is faced with a looming budget deficit again for 2014-2015. The public is urged to support the Nacogdoches County Commissioners in their efforts to bring greater fiscal responsibility to our county by attending and participating in the upcoming public hearings about the proposed budget, which is expected to be in the range of $17-$18 million. This proposed budget also includes a tax increase.
The public hearings will be on Monday, September 23 and Tuesday, September 24, both at 9:00 a.m., at the county courthouse, 101 W. Main Street.
Texas law guarantees "the people" the opportunity to observe public officials while they are conducting official businesses that affects us all, but sadly, far too many people don't bother to get involved. County business affects us all, and everyone is urged to attend this important meeting.
"There is a saying in free societies: you get the government you deserve. For democracy to succeed, citizens must be active, not passive, because they know that the success or failure of the government is their responsibility, and no one else's." (source)
