PTI Chairman had won three of the four national assembly constituencies in the May 11th general elections choosing to keep the NA-54 which he won against Hanif Abbassi of PMLN in Rawalpindi.
Many in PTI blame the wrong choice of candidates for the loss of these seats. NA-1 candidate Gul Bacha Khan is allegedly an Afghan citizen holding a fake Pakistani passport and NADRA identification card with money laundering cases pending against him.
Gul Bacha Khan lost to the ANP candidate Ghulam Ahmed Bilour who was defeated by Imran Khan's 90,500 votes. Gul Bacha was only able to secure $22,578.
PTI votes were divided because many in the Party ranks blame the wrong choice of candidate for the elections with a PTI's own member Samad Mursaleen contesting as an Independent candidate because of not being given ticket by the Party.
NA-71 candidate who is a close relative of the candidate Ayla Malik initially chosen by the party to compete for the seat was disqualified because of allegedly having a fake degree also lost to the PMLN candidate.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf representatives blame massive rigging for the loss of NA-71.
"This is wake call for us and we need to ensure we do proper homework before issuing tickets to candidates who contest on behalf of PTI, I hope our leadership learns a lesson." Said a PTI worker from New York.
