When Lynn Van Praagh took her husband’s surname forty years ago, no one knew that the Van Praagh name would someday be synonymous with psychic medium. Now, she’s trying to cash in on the name, at least that’s what brother James Van Praagh has to say.
The psychic siblings are now battling the use of the name out in court, reports the NY Daily News on January 29.
James Van Praagh, former producer of the show “Ghost Whisper” and well-known psychic medium, filed papers in federal court last week in Long Island to stop Lynn from using the name Van Praagh. He argues that the use of the name will deceive and confuse the public and that his sister is only using it to cash in on his success.
Lynn, on the other hand, claims she is psychic too and has every right to use the family name.
Lynn has appealed to her fans on Facebook by posting a link on January 30 to the NY Daily News article. Fan’s reactions range from expressing that the whole thing is ridiculous to suggesting that Lynn let the name go and stand on her own.
A featured post on Lynn’s Facebook page on January 31 written by a supporter concludes with:
“Seeking to challenge someone who by right was born with the same Surname which was given by the adjoining of Love is not the way to stardom but the way to Loneliness.”
Whether Lynn Van Praagh will be prohibited from using the name given to her at birth or not remains to be seen, but this is one battle that goes a step beyond sibling rivalry.
