Psych season premiere Shawn channels James Bond (recap & next week sneak peek)

Wednesday night Psych season 6 premiered on USA and fans were not disappointed.  We watched as Shawn Spencer crashed a British Embassy sponsored party to rescue a 'Darth Vader' collectors item for a young boy who paid him $500 to retrieve it.  He took on multiple disguises from valet, waiter, to party goer.  Once he was in the room he played a few video games, ate some food from the mini fridge, spoke to Gus on his new spy watch (two way communicator), and located the item.  Then the guards heard someone talking (Gus and Shawn) and chased him into the adjoining room (daddy's bedroom) where he hid under the bed, next to a dead body.  He managed to escape, scale the rooftop, jump and land in a dumpster and high tail it to Gus' car where he told Gus to go.  All this happened in the first five minutes before the opening credits began.  It proved one thing, Shawn is still Shawn... only cooler this year.

The rest of the episode was centered around Shawn trying to stay ahead of the cops (they couldn't find out he crashed the party) and discover the murderer (which he managed to do in one hour, something our cop dramas across the dial are famous for).  He was only wrong twice before he guessed the correct killer.  But not only did he solve this murder, he solved one that happened 6 months ago, one that an innocent man Colin had spent 4 months in jail for.  Oh you can bet Colin was on the suspect list, but it was actually Colin's host father Charles that did the dirty deed.  He killed Colin's girlfriend 'Sarah Peele' and framed him for it.  All because Charles had a nasty habit of lusting after younger women.

While in the process of solving the murder Shawn and Gus were hired by the Ambassador and afforded diplomatic immunity (which actually offers very little immunity).  Spencer, being the Shawn we all love to hate, played the immunity card a little too far when he tried commandeering a cop car which landed him behind bars.  All fine and dandy if the police station had not received an anonymous tip (picture of Shawn's back going up the stairs the night of the party).  This gave Carlton all the ammo he needed to hook Shawn up to a lie detector (the same one he had Juliet hooked up to earlier in the episode, which helped him discover Shawn and Juliet were dating).  Shawn breezed through the lie detector test (even though he was lying about the picture not being him) and he admitted he loved Juliet (oh oh, in front of Juliet, his dad, and the Cheif).  Despite the awkward moment Carlton decided he had one more question to ask, 'are you Shawn Spencer psychic?'  Fans at home were wondering how he would get through this one, but he again managed to fool the test.  It was only later in the episode we learned dear old dad had taught Shawn how to pass a lie detector test in the privacy of their own home when he was a teenager.

The show ended with Carlton hooking himself up to a lie detector, he reminded Shawn that it was Shawn who outed the relationship Carlton and his partner were having when they first met.  A parter who was transferred, a partner he really liked.  But none of that matter, because for six year Juliet was his partner and he promised Shawn that if he hurts his partner he will shoot him.  To reinforce the message he turned the lie detector on.

Overall, the episode had you rolling, the romance hasn't hurt the show.  In fact, it seems like Shawn has matured (just a little bit) since he has started dating Juliet (at least he had more high tech cool toys to play with).  Carlton still doesn't trust Shawn, daddy still works for the department, the Cheif is still happy to hire Shawn and Gus when needed, and Gus is still the best side kick around (evident as he showed little patience for the two kids in the story and Shawn had to remind him to grow up).  What did you think of the episode?  Are you excited to see the show back?  What do you think will happen between Shawn and Juliet now that he let the cat out of the bag and admitted to loving her?  Feel free to leave a comment below with your thoughts.

Next week the all the boys decide to party a little too hard... all the boys.  They wake up and try to retrace their steps from the night before, but the massive hangovers they are recovering from created lapses in their memories.  Check out the video to the left to see the preview.  Check out more television recaps and sneak peeks here.
