Sometimes, the hits can get just too big. The biggest song of 2012 is obviously "Gangnam Style," but it may soon be coming to an end. Psy told MTV that he will be "ending" his phenomenal hit on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" because it has simply become too popular.
The hit song that brought about the pony-riding dance seems to have run its course, and Psy said that New Year's Eve is the greatest time to do it.
"Being in Times Square on New Year's Eve is already special – it's the biggest stage in the universe – plus it's my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of 'Gangnam Style,'" said Psy. "I mean, what better way to do it? It's my biggest and most meaningful birthday."
The song won't just disappear and go away, but Psy doesn't believe it will either. He just is ready to start on his follow-up song to "Gangnam Style," and he's hard at work on another single. "Gangnam Style" simply has run its course.
"The song became too popular, and so you start to have some concern about its life period," he said. "I'm really working hard on a new single right now, and I'm not saying ['Gangnam'] is ending on Dick Clark — I still have a lot of invitations to perform it . . . I'll be in Paris, and in February I got invited to perform in China, and I've still got to do promo. So let me say that in America I need a new single because 'Gangnam Style' got too popular, so I've got to write a new single."
It is obvious that "Gangnam Style" has been overly popular. It easily became the most watched video on the entire internet. On YouTube alone, it garnered more than one billion views.
