Copper Mountain is host to the Professional Ski Instructors of America-American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI) annual Team Training. The Teams consist of Alpine, Adaptive, Nordic, and Snowboard disciplines. Team members are clinicians and athletes at the top of their game and take the message of PSIA-AASI on the road to share with its members and divisions across the country.
One of the main themes of training this year was simplicity. Team members have been focusing on the getting down to the fundamentals of skiing and snowboarding. Many team members expressed that they were focusing on "what works" in terms of movements and ski/board-to-snow interaction. Team member, Nick Herrin shared his focus of concentrating on the ankle joint and flexing his ankles earlier in the turn.
In addition to focusing on fundamentals, Snowboard Team Members worked on creating short video clips. These clips and tips will be posted online to help instructors, both inexperienced and experienced, with their teaching.
Official suppliers and members of the media were invited to ski/ride with the Teams at Copper. Copper is not open to the public until November 1. The coverage at Copper was excellent for early season conditions.
The 2013-2014 ski season is officially underway in Colorado!
