The Board of Directors for the Professional Ski Instructors of American and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI) will meet this June 1-3, 2012 in Golden, CO. Each year the board members meet in June to dicuss the issues facing the organization.
Last year, board members had to face the difficult decision of whether or not to increase dues for its membership. This was not an easy decision to make, especially in a time when people are more sensitive to spending due to current economic situations. The board members discussed their options at great length discussing the pros and cons of a dues increase. Ultimately, they decided that a dues increase was necessary and devised a plan of how to increase dues. This year, the national dues have increased $11.
The decision to increase dues received some pushback and criticism from some of the regional divisions. Those PSIA-AASI members present at the board meeting saw that an increase in dues was the only viable option. However, this decision sparked conversations on the roles of the national organization and the roles of the regional organizations. This year's meeting will strive to specifically define these roles in question, as well as provide a state of the union on how the organization and its membership is doing.
