PSIA-AASI (Professional Ski Instructors of America-American Association of Snowboard Instructors) has released an e-learning module for entry level instructors. PSIA-AASI headquartered in Lakewood, CO is the non-profit organization that establishes certification standards for ski and snowboard instructors and develops education materials to be used as core components in most ski and snowboard schools' trainings. Often times, newer instructors do not have as much experience to rely upon as career ski/snowboard instructors. However, with the new e-learning module, these newer instructors now have a tool to help them develop.
How does it work? The Entry Level Instructor's Guide is the first in a series of online e-courses produced by PSIA-AASI that details the expectations of becoming a professional snowsports instructor. This 14-minute online presentation is a combination of slides and video to help entry level instructors hone their craft. It covers topics like professionalism, training, and safety.
Earl Saline, PSIA-AASI Professional Development Manager says, "Our extension into e-learning came from a desire to provide valuable information for new instructors in a whole new way." The e-learning course is interactive and can help an entry level instructor progress to the next level. "Rather than replace instructor training that a school might provide, the Entry Level Instructor's Guide is meant to compliment that training for new staff," says Saline.
