Barbara Bienvenue, a woman in Quebec fooled her boyfriend, Paul Servat, family, friends and many organizations into believing she was pregnant with quintuplets. Barbara is thirty-seven years old and had everyone believe she was thirty-four weeks pregnant.
This isn’t the first time she has pulled at stunt like this before. In a news story on March 24 by The Christian Post it seems she tricked her ex-boyfriend into believing she was pregnant with twins. Another time she claimed she was very sick and was diagnosed with cancer. None of this was true.
A friend of Barbara Bienvenue was so excited for her she launched a new page on Facebook trying to do the right thing for her pregnant friend. Many woman who are pregnant with multiple births get assistance and items donated from various people and organizations because it is always news to hear of multiple pregnancies and births and the expense of having multiple children is usually more than any single or family unit could afford alone.
People reached out from all over and donated clothes, furniture, money and miscellaneous baby items. The items poured into the Barbara’s home since her friend used her personal and professional contacts to seek help in getting her sponsored. Now Barbara’s friend feels used and is upset about the whole situation.
The father of the child, Paul Servat took Barbara to the hospital for a check-up and the nurse told them she wasn’t pregnant and never was. Paul was hysterical when he found out she fooled him and tricked others into sending her money and items when in fact she wasn’t pregnant at all. He didn’t understand how she could have made up such a story and later learned that Barbara may be suffering from a false pregnancy also known as pseudocyesis.
Barbara Bienvenue is now undergoing psychiatric care for her condition. Since she has had previous bouts of believing she was pregnant and having cancer before doctors are quite concerned if she isn’t treated immediately she could possible do it again.
Causes of pseudocyesis:
- Desire to be married
- Desire to have a child

It is sad that this had to happen but it is does have a happy ending since Barbara is now getting the help she needs so badly!
