With the upcoming PS4 on its way to seeing a release this Fall 2013, there has been some speculation on what the state of the gaming world will be. There are dozens of ways to play games now, whether be with a PC, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, gaming console and handheld console. The list goes on and on from there. GamingBolt conducted a recent interview on Mar. 10, 2013, with Linus Blomberg, co-founder and CTO of Avalanche Studios. Mr. Blomberg had some interesting details to point out in terms of the direction Sony has envisioned.
“It’s always very exciting with a new console cycle, for a number of reasons. The consoles desperately need a boost since having been overtaken in terms of performance by PC’s several years ago, and also losing market share to mobile platforms." says Blomberg. He went on to add that the PS4 has impeccable hardware for the types of games Avalanche Studios plans to develop.
PCs have become gaming powerhouses over the years, allowing players to customize their own specs, making graphical improvements as well as performance improvements. The PS4 will feature an eight-core processor, 8GB GDDR5 memory, and a powerful AMD Radeon-based GPU. "I’m glad Sony decided to go with 8GB RAM because it means that the PS4 will out-power most PC’s for years to come." Blomberg said, praising the decisions Sony made with its hardware.
It is a bold statement to say that the PS4 will overshadow PC gaming solely based off of the console's architecture and plan. With the intent to combine social integration and a performance packed system that's up to speed with today's high end computers, the PS4 could very well be the true social gaming platform that gamers are looking for.
