From a new report that was published by the popular Japanese newspaper, the Asahi Shimbun, yesterday, it appears that the PS4 may actually have a launch price of about 40,000 yen in Japan. As translated by The Verge, this comes out to about $428 in the United States, as this will probably indicate a launch price of $399.
If this information comes out to be true, Sony will be pricing the PS4 at a considerably lower price than the PS3, which launched in the United States at the price of $599. In addition to this, Asahi Shimbun states that the PS4 will be released in the United States and Japan before the end of 2013. The PS4 will also feature a new controller that is “roughly the same shape” as the current PS3 controller, the DualShock 3, but will feature a new touchpad.
It is currently expected that Sony will be revealing the PS4 at the PlayStation event that is scheduled for later this month, on Feb. 20. For those of you that are interested, you can view a few creative concept photos of the PS4 in the slideshow featured above this article.
