Sony has recently announced a brand new system software update for the PS4 that’ll increase the number of supported headsets for the console. The software update, version 1.60, will add support for Sony’s Pulse and Pulse Elite Edition wireless stereo headsets. Both headsets include voice chat and hi-fidelity 7.1 virtual surround sound. The software update should be available sometime later today.
In addition, Sony has announced that a new PS4 and Vita-compatible headset, the Gold Wireless Headset, will launch early this month for $99. Like the Sony Pulse and Pulse Elite Edition, the Gold Wireless Headset includes hi-fidelity 7.1 virtual surround sound but also features, a hidden noise canceling microphone for voice chat, custom sound profiles created by developers, customizable faceplates, and eight hours of use when using its wireless adaptor.
The new headset, as well as the Pulse Elite Edition, are both compatible with a free app, the Headset Companion App, that’ll be available on the PlayStation Store sometime this month. The app will allow for players to play customized game modes that are specifically created to intensify game audio for certain games such as the upcoming PS4 exclusive, inFAMOUS Second Son. Along with customized sound modes, the app also features preset audio modes for games, music, and movies.
