PS4: 'Outlast' will scare PS Plus subscribers in February for free

Sony typically waits until the end of the month to announce the free games that are being added to the PS Plus Instant Collection for the following month. However, developer Red Barrels jumped the gun Monday by revealing that Outlast will be free in February for PS4 owners that subscribe to the premium service.

"Outlast will be free in February for all PlayStation Plus users (PS4 only)," the studio announced on the game's official Facebook page.

The game is currently scheduled to be released to the PS4 on Feb. 5. That means the game will likely be released for free to PS Plus subscribers at the same time. PS3 players will be receiving BioShock Infinite.

For those that don't know, Outlast was first released to the PC last September as a first-person survival horror game set in an asylum where the player has to navigate the environment and is largely incapable of fighting back. That means lots of sneaking around and hiding under the bed in the hopes that the bad things skulking about in the room don't bother to look under there for you.

The atmosphere is heightened by the use of a video camera's night vision function to allow the main character to see in the dark. However, that eats up batteries which means it will have to be used judiciously until replacements are found.
