Sony Computer Entertainment released the product in the United Sates on Nov. 15th of 2013. The PS4 became the fastest selling console in history with 4.2 million units sold as of Dec. 28th of the same year. The competing Xbox One managed 3 million units sold by the end of 2013.

Although Sony Computer Entertainment has been manufacturing and shipping the PS4 at a high rate, the company was unable to meet demand, especially in the United Sates. The next-generation system became hard to find during the holiday season as customers were buying the product as soon as it is made available on store shelves. Online retailers like the aforesaid Amazon also sold through shipments in just minutes.

An executive from Sony Computer Entertainment previously stated that the PS4 would be easier to find at the start of 2014. The company is also planning to launch the new console in other regions this year, including a Feb. 22nd release in Japan.

The PS4 has an official price tag of $399.99, which is $100 cheaper than the aforesaid Xbox One. Sony’s new console also reportedly has a sizable power advantage over Microsoft’s next-generation system.
