Shuhei Yoshida has posted a clarification in regards a potential feature that could be added in the future firmwares for the PS4. According to a report from Gamepur on Jan. 16, a fan asked the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios if a new system update will be able to disable the light bar of the Dual Shock 4 controller when not being used in a video game.

Shuhei Yoshida replied with a simple “no” answer. Another fan followed up by suggesting that the light bar drains the battery life of the Dual Shock 4. However, the executive claimed that the LED lights “do not use much battery.” You can check out the controller, as well as other images of the PS4, in the slideshow to the left of this article.

In addition to the short battery life, PS4 users are also complaining about the light bar causing a noticeable glare on the television screen while playing games. Despite these grievances, Sony Computer Entertainment does not appear to be in a hurry to make any changes as to how the Dual Shock 4 controller operates.

The company has not yet announced when the next PS4 firmware is going to be made available. The next-generation system launched in North America on Nov. 15, Europe on Nov. 29 as well as other regions last year.
