Sony confirmed Wednesday during a Tokyo Game Show keynote that the Playstation 4 will work with existing video capture devices such as the Hauppauge HDVR2 and the Elgato game capture card.
Update: A follow-up to this story was just posted revealing that video capture device support will not be ready when the PS4 launches.
Concern was raised among the gaming community last week due to the fact that the PS4 only supports HDMI out for video with no ability to use component cables. The PS3 does not allow video capture devices to work with HDMI due to how HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is implemented to block not only movies but games as well on anything other than HDTVs.
However, Sony has decided to disable the HDCP restrictions on games with the PS4 which means the community of gamers who enjoy recording entire gameplay sessions can breathe a sigh of relief.
As for the Xbox One, Microsoft confirmed that their console will support video capture over HDMI in an interview with Polygon this past April.
