Sony’s PS4 continues to sell well across the globe having sold over 2.1 million units worldwide during its opening weeks. GamesIndustry.biz reported on Dec. 11 that analyst firm DFC Intelligence has gathered information to note that the PS4 has achieved the biggest launch of the video game the industry’s history.
DFC detailed that the PS4 “has sold more units in its first two weeks than any other console at launch.” Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that the Xbox One has gone to sell over 2 million units between North America, select European countries, Brazil, and Australia.
The Xbox One has been crowned as the second biggest console in the video game industry. DFC notes that both the PS4 and Xbox One have had “very successful console launches in November, 2013.” They continue “with 2.1 million units sold in its initial two weeks, the PlayStation 4 became the largest console launch ever.”
Though it is too early to declare a winner, the DFC reports that the PS4’s early success will lead it to victory this generation. However, the firm doesn’t believe the PS4 will achieve the sales success of the PS2 or the Wii – each having sold over 100 million units worldwide.
“The initial success of the PlayStation 4 bodes well for its future. The PlayStation 2 and Wii went on to be the best selling console systems ever. DFC Intelligence does not believe that the PlayStation 4 will surpass those systems but reiterates its forecast that the PS4 will be the number one system of this generation,” DFC reports.
