The Sony genie is at it again, granting old wishes through the slimmed down Playstation 3. If you weren't around a couple months ago, we were discussing the technical limitations of implementing hardware DTS HD bitstream output. It turns out that this hurdle has been passed, and the PS3 Slim will support features like DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD bitstreaming without having to decode internally and then pass over LPCM. The notion as to whether or not bitstream is superior to the built in support from HDMI is still debated. Some readers have previously stated the difference is negligible.

For those not up to speed, here's yesterday's article about the new 45nm Cell chip. Also, the new PS3 model will support direct interfacing with the Bravia TV (why this wasn't planned from the beginning is a mystery), but on the downside, will no longer support custom OS installation for Linux fans.
